KUWAIT: The administrative court recently asked the Fatwa and Legislation Department whether the Kuwaiti citizenships of Kuwaitis with dual nationality can be withdrawn without giving them the option to choose which one to keep.

This inquiry was made during hearing a case filed by a citizen whose citizenship was withdrawn for having a Saudi one as well, said security sources, noting that the man’s children did not hold Saudi citizenship, and thus they became stateless.

Informed sources added that the citizen’s children said that their father had not been questioned or given a choice to choose one of the citizenships before his Kuwaiti citizenship was withdrawn, as stipulated by law. The sources added that the Fatwa and Legislation Department had been asked the same question five times this year without any response so far. — Al-Qabas
