KU launches e-library for disabled students

KUWAIT: The Dean of Student Affairs, represented by the Social Welfare Department and the Department of People with Disabilities, held a trial day to establish an electronic library for students with disabilities in the Kuwait University Central Library in Sabah Al-Salem University City. The Social Welfare Department, in coordination with Kuwait University’s students with disabilities, conducted a pilot demonstration of some devices for people with disabilities, where they experimented with the devices that facilitate their access to the books they need.

In this regard, the Director of the Social Welfare Department, Wael Al-Obaid, stated that the Social Welfare Department seeks to develop and upgrade the services provided to students with disabilities in order to keep pace with their academic requirements.

“From this standpoint, the administration, in cooperation with the Sector of the Vice Chancellor for Planning, the E-Learning Center, and the Central Library of Kuwait University, prepared for the establishment of an electronic library for students with disabilities to enable them to access and view books, references, and periodicals and prepare reports and research,” he added.

The Social Welfare Department, in cooperation with Al-Deera Company, which specializes in technological devices for people with disabilities, provided multiple and varied devices for students with disabilities to experiment, evaluate, and make observations.
