KUWAIT: Chairman of Cancer Aware Nation (CAN) Dr Khalid Ahmad Al-Saleh inaugurated the awareness and early preventative examination clinic at Abdulrahman Al-Abdulmughni Health Center in Faiha. This initiative is part of the 9th Gulf Cancer Awareness Week, conducted in collaboration with the health committee of Faiha Health City. Dr Saleh highlighted that the clinic’s establishment stems from a cooperation agreement signed with the committee to enhance health awareness in Faiha and educate individuals on the early detection of various cancerous tumors.

He emphasized the strategy of promoting prevention and addressing non-infectious chronic diseases, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals, WHO programs and Kuwait’s 2035 vision. The campaign aims to raise awareness about non-infectious chronic diseases, with a focus on Al-Saqer Specialized Medical Center. According to Kuwait Cancer Control Center’s (KCCC) statistics, annual cancer cases in men totaled 859. It comprises 423 Kuwaitis and 437 non-Kuwaitis. Women’s cases reached 1,453, with 839 Kuwaiti women and 614 non-Kuwaitis. The highest occurrence rates are of colon and rectal cancer, prostate cancer and lung cancer for men, while breast cancer, thyroid cancer and endometrial cancer are prominent among women.

Dr Amal Al-Suqubi, Head of Primary Healthcare at the Health Ministry, explained that the clinic’s opening aligns with the strategic plan supporting health and awareness services for chronic diseases, including cancer. She stressed the importance of early detection and the subsequent higher rates of recovery, noting that necessary steps and doctors’ training were undertaken in collaboration with the CAN campaign to achieve their goals. Dr Anwar Buhamra, Head of Abdulrahman Al-Abdulmughni Health Center, highlighted that Faiha has been recognized as a Healthy City on the world’s Healthy Cities map, ranking fifth in Kuwait.
