Shadadiya industrial project to push Kuwait’s non-oil growth

80% of project work completed, delivery in current fiscal year: Al-Aiban

KUWAIT: Minister of Commerce and Industry and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Mohammed Al-Aiban said that 80 percent of the work at Shadadiya Industrial Zone project has been completed and the project is expected to be delivered in the current fiscal year (2023-2024).

Minister Al-Aiban added in a press statement on Thursday after his inspection tour of the Shadadiya Industrial Area to assess the progress of the work and the latest developments of the project that the zone has the provision of an integrated industrial zone with services that would contribute mainly to providing the necessary infrastructure to prepare the business environment in Kuwait.

He explained that this project will help advance industrial development and increase the contribution of non-oil manufacturing industry to the GDP, in addition to providing productive and suitable job opportunities for national employment through the localization of small and medium industries.

Under the law, 10 percent of the industrial zone will be allocated to the National Fund for Small and Medium Enterprises Development and 10 percent of the industrial zone will be allocated to the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA), he said.

Minister Al-Aiban said that the percentage of work on the project exceeded the project schedule, and the infrastructure has been completed from industrial networks, sewage, electricity, fresh water and salt water, in addition to roads and lighting.

Acting Director General of the Public Authority for Industry Mohammed Al-Adwani said in a similar statement that the project includes three main sectors: chemical with 242 vouchers, food 299 vouchers and miscellaneous 495 vouchers, all of which include about 1036 vouchers with different areas ranging from 1,000 square meters to 10,000 square meters.

Most of these services are located in the center of the area or close to the entrances, Adwani said, as these services include a fire station, a medical clinic, a security center, a mosque, administrative offices and a gas station. He explained that the completion rate in the food sector reached 100 percent and work is underway on the rest of the sectors. The project will be handed over after the electricity supply is extended from the ministry of electricity and water at the end of the current fiscal year (2023-2024).

Located in the southwest of Kuwait City, Al-Shadadiya Industrial is the largest industrial city in the country with an area of approximately five square kilometers and includes about 1,036 plots, including chemical, food and miscellaneous, and the project will be managed using sustainable development methods during the contract period.

The project aims to achieve all the requirements of economic and industrial growth by providing the basis for the establishment of an advanced industrial zone and providing it with the latest technologies. It provides job opportunities for Kuwaitis and seeks to achieve a qualitative leap in the world of Kuwaiti industry in terms of product and definition internationally and globally, in addition to achieving the desires of industrialists in production expansion operations.

The project contains a technology park with an area of 200,000 square meters and a number of public services, including a fire station, a medical clinic, a security center, a mosque, administrative offices, a gas station and a truck service station. The project also includes 51 internal roads and infrastructure services such as rainwater drainage system, sewage and industrial system, main treatment plant, fresh water system, firefighting system, lighting network, in addition to cosmetic crops and irrigation networks. It also contains a 400 KV main power station, four other 132 KV power stations and 91 11 KV power substations. — KUNA
