KUWAIT: Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Cancer Awareness Campaign (CAN) Dr Khalid Al-Saleh highlighted that prostate cancer ranks as the leading cancer in Kuwait among men. He emphasized that the chances of recovery are significantly higher when the disease is detected early. Speaking at the opening of a sports walkathon at the Boulevard Complex, part of the activities of the Kuwait campaign to raise awareness of prostate cancer in collaboration with the Patients Helping Fund Society, Urology Association and Kuwaiti Oncology Association, Dr Saleh expressed that the event’s purpose is to convey a crucial message to every man, particularly those aged over 50, emphasizing that the cure rate is promising with early detection.
He underscored the simplicity of early detection, involving a straightforward blood sample, and cautioned against waiting for symptoms such as increased urine levels or bone pain to manifest. Dr Saleh commended the collaboration with the Patients Helping Fund Society, highlighting their joint efforts not only in sports events but also in delivering medical aid and medicines to the people of Gaza affected by the Zionist occupation.
Dr Saleh renewed the call to spread the awareness message not only in Kuwait but also beyond, stressing that many lives can be saved through early detection. He pointed out that the walkathon establishes a connection between sports and immunity in human health. The National Cancer Awareness Campaign, through its active participation in awareness campaigns, aims to reduce cancer incidence in Kuwait by a third through lifestyle modifications like exercise and healthy eating.
Emphasizing the campaign’s commitment to the principle of awareness in all its initiatives, Dr Saleh stated that their goal is to raise health awareness and reduce cancer rates. Jamal Al-Fawzan, Director General of the Patients Helping Fund Society, expressed their honor in participating with CAN and the Prostate Cancer Association in the walkathon.
He highlighted the society’s 44-year commitment to serving society, particularly in health and sports awareness, aligning with the vision of New Kuwait 2035. The association’s mission includes providing top-notch medical relief, advancing individual and societal well-being, offering health services locally and globally and aiding patients unable to seek livelihood due to illness or disasters. — KUNA
