KUWAIT: The Cabinet held its weekly meeting on Tuesday at Bayan Palace, chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Following the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sharida Abdullah Al-Maousherji stated the following: On the occasion of the flag-raising ceremony that will be held at Bayan Palace on Feb 2, 2025, marking the start of the national celebrations of Kuwait, the Cabinet extends its sincere congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and the honorable Kuwaiti people, asking God Almighty to return this national occasion to Kuwait every year while it enjoys goodness, prosperity and flourishing.
The representative of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment Noura Suleiman Al-Fassam informed the Cabinet of the results of the forum held in the Swiss city of Davos during the period from 20 to 24 -1-2025 and the content of her speech during the forum in which she referred to the expectations and aspirations towards the prospects of economic development in light of the challenges and opportunities available, pointing to geopolitical risks, climate change and risks associated with artificial intelligence, which are among the most prominent global challenges for the year 2025. The minister stressed that these challenges require close cooperation between the public and private sectors to employ technology to achieve economic growth.
On the other hand, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the current session of the Ministerial Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, informed the Cabinet of the results of his visit last Friday to Lebanon, accompanied by the Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Jasem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, and the content of his meetings with the President of the Lebanese Republic, General Joseph Aoun; the Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri; the Prime Minister-designate, Najib Mikati; the Prime Minister-designate, Dr. Nawaf Salam; and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdullah Bou Habib.
This confirmed the commitment of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to support Lebanon’s sovereignty. Its security, stability, territorial integrity, and the importance of implementing comprehensive political and economic reforms to ensure that Lebanon overcomes its crises.
The Council of Ministers also reviewed the visual presentation submitted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, and a number of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the system of mechanizing institutional resources (mechanizing the accounts of diplomatic missions), which aims to develop a strategy to avoid all the comments received from the regulatory authorities and to quickly enable the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to complete transactions related to the accounts of the military, cultural, and health offices through the embassies abroad in order to preserve public money.
The Council of Ministers reviewed the recommendations contained in the minutes of the Ministerial Committee for Economic Affairs. In this regard, the Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mahmoud Abdulaziz Bushehri, informed the Council of Ministers of the procedures taken by the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy regarding the white paper on energy transformation in Kuwait.
He also informed the Cabinet of the signing of a memorandum of understanding by the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy on Monday with the company (ABC Transco Limited Energy), which, with its strategic partner (General Electric Vernova), has submitted as a developer, operator, and investor to establish a power generation station with a total capacity of up to 3,000 megawatts—using gas turbines (power station) with all its infrastructure accessories, stressing that the memorandum of understanding comes under the directives of the political leadership.
The Cabinet also reviewed the reports of the financial controllers’ offices for the fiscal year (2023/2024 - 2024/2025) and decided to refer them to the Government Performance Follow-up Agency to coordinate with the relevant government agencies to benefit from the results and recommendations contained in those reports and take the measures it deems appropriate to achieve the public interest in accordance with the provisions in force in this regard.
On the other hand, the Cabinet reviewed a number of topics included on the agenda. The Council of Ministers approved the minutes of the Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Nationality, which included cases of loss, withdrawal, and revocation of Kuwaiti nationality from some persons, in accordance with the provisions of Decree Law No. (15) of 1959 regarding Kuwaiti nationality and its amendments. — KUNA
