KUWAIT: Kuwait Special Olympics organized the Fourth Family Health Forum within the activities of the Special Olympics for the 2024-2025 season. The forum was attended by a good number of families as well as the “mother” of the disabled Al-Sheikha Sheikha Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, UN Secretary General Special Representative Ambassador Mohammad Al-Hassan, National Director of Kuwait Special Olympics Rihab Bouresli, Chairman of Tomooh Sports Club Eng. Jassim Al-Nouri, Deputy Chairman Dherar Hanan Al-Zawawi, Secretary General Sadeeqa Al-Ansari and board member Fahad Al-Sahli.
The forum was presented by Dr Ghada Ibrahim which included two lectures by Dr Ahmad Abdulmalik and Dr Maha Anbar who are consultant of internal diseases, rheumatology and spinal infections, on the importance of sports and correct nutrition for the disabled persons in increasing the immunity level, prevention and treatment of rheumatism and spinal infections in the disabled.
Rihab Bouresli lauded the outstanding turn out of athletes guardians and their response to the health program of Special Olympics and their interaction with the lecturers which reflects a distinguished level of awareness that contributes to preparing the family to participate effectively in caring for the health and safety of players. She said family cooperation and awareness is the corner stone in supporting it to carry out its mission to enhance the quality of living of the mentally challenged children.
She said the Special Olympics health program includes a bundle of health care programs for players and their families including medical examination of athletes in all specialties and giving them medical service in the fields of psychological health, healthy nutrition and physical fitness, that in addition to presenting health and awareness services to guardians.
Bouresli thanked the forum’s guests, lecturers, the supervisor of the Special Olympics health program Dalal Buhamdi, Kuwait Establishment for the Advancement of Sciences (KEFAS), Regional Special Olympics for MENA, Information Ministry and Kuwait Society for the Disabled Guardians.
