AMMAN: The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development signed a seventh grant agreement on Monday with the King Hussein Cancer Foundation in Jordan, amounting to $2 million to help treat Syrian refugees receiving care in Jordan. The agreement was signed by the Acting Director-General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development Waleed Al-Bahar and the Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the the King Hussein Cancer Foundation Princess Ghida Talal. The signing ceremony was attended by Kuwait’s Ambassador to Jordan Hamad Al-Marri and Jordan’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan along with other officials from the foundation.
In a statement after the signing, Princess Ghida expressed pride in the important partnership with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, appreciating its humanitarian role and the unlimited support it has provided to save the lives of cancer patients over the years.
Al-Bahar said that with this agreement, the total value of grants to the King Hussein Cancer Foundation in Jordan has reached $11.5 million. This $2 million grant, the seventh to be given to the center, will guarantee patients access to all types of treatment, ensuring Syrian refugees in Jordan access the services they need. Previously, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development had provided $9.5 million through six grants to the Al-Hussein Cancer Foundation to assist Syrian refugees suffering from cancer in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
Ambassador Al-Marri highlighted that the agreement is part of Kuwait’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to support Syrian refugees in Jordan. He expressed his happiness in meeting several Syrian refugee patients and children from Gaza receiving treatment at the Al-Hussein Cancer Center, which is renowned for its high level of care and attention to the patients’ psychological and social well-being. — KUNA
