Kuwait Football Zain League to start Thursday

KUWAIT: Competitions of Kuwait Premier Zain League will start on Thursday with the Kuwait Classico match between Qadisiya and Kuwait Clubs. The 63rd season (2024-2025) starts with this match on Thursday because Kuwait Club has a commitment with Asia Champions League.

Competitions will resume Friday with Yarmouk vs Tadhamon, while Khaitan will face Fahaheel. This first round will be concluded Saturday with a match between Al-Arabi and Kazima and Salmiya against Al-Nasr.

The Premier League which has 10 clubs will continue with the same system of last season as it will be home and away in its first stage, then the teams will be divided into two groups, and teams will retain their points total.

The first group will include the six top teams and they will play home and away to determine the champion, while the second group includes the teams from 7th to 10th will compete with the same home and away system to avoid relegation, as two teams will be relegated.

Yarmouk and Tadhamon were promoted to the premier league this season, as Jahra and Shabab were dropped to the first league. Kuwait will attempt to remain champion as it won the last three league championships.

Meanwhile, Al-Arabi and Qadisiya seek to compete for the league title and restore their bright history and make their fans who are hungry for the title happy. Qadisiya seeks to win its 18th league title, as it has been away from it for the past 8 years, while Al-Arabi seeks to beat Kuwait as it has been the closest competitor in the past few years.

One cannot ignore Salmiya and Kazema as they are considered fierce competitors of the top three teams. As for Al-Nasr, Tadhamon, Yarmouk, Fahaheel and Khaitan they will be looking for warm places in the standings to guarantee they remain in the premier league.

It is worth mentioning that the Kuwait league began in the 1961/1962 season, and Kuwait Club was crowned champion 19 times while Al-Arabi and Qadisiya 17 times each, Salmiya and Kazema four times and Jahra once. — KUNA
