KUWAIT: Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Dr Mohammad Al-Wasmi said the Quran learning and recitation competition reflects the efforts of memorizing the book of Allah and caring for its learners. Al-Wasmi spoke during the closing ceremony of the 26th competition, which was under the slogan (Maknoun) “protected”. The event was held under the patronage of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

He said the Awqaf Ministry is keen on organizing Quran contests for citizens (of both genders). The contest has recorded 43,686 participants over 26 years, with 4,185 winners. The Awqaf Ministry had, among its priorities, made various efforts that are aimed at caring for the holy Quran, its sciences, and attracting all groups of Kuwaiti society to the contest.

He expressed pride in crowning the new group of Quran learners. The number of winners this year reached 242 (of both genders), in addition to 33 winners from the disabled group. Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Awqaf Nasser Al-Hamad said Kuwait became the focus of the entire world for Quran recitation and for recognizing its learners. Al-Hamad said the Secretariat is keen on continuing its efforts in supporting sustainable societal development.

This year’s contest had 2,604 participants. 2,077 were tested—892 males and 1,185 females. The number of participating entities was 50, and 4 of them were awarded with contest plaques. The number of winners from the reform institutions and juveniles was 10. The number of those who achieved 100 percent was 13 (six males and seven females). — KUNA
