KUWAIT: Chairman of the Board of Cancer Aware Nation, Dr Khalid Ahmad Al-Saleh, announced the start of the training program on early detection of cancer for healthcare professionals in Kuwait. The program is aimed at training 500 primary care doctors on reading the early signs of breast, colon, rectal, head and neck, thyroid, and prostate cancers. Doctors and dentists are in partnership with the Health Ministry and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS).
Dr Al-Saleh said CAN hopes to train 400 dentists on early detection of initial signs of oral cancer and is introducing the latest scientific discoveries and studies in this field. He said that looking for early signs is an important tool for early detection by trained doctors, which results in a speedy transfer of cases to the specialists. This enhances quick treatment and less suffering for the cancer patient.
The program includes training the participants on the skills of communicating with cancer patients and their families. Dr Khalid Al-Saleh said 1,475 dentists have been trained, while 1,533 primary care doctors have also been trained. Dr Al-Saleh thanked the participants, the Health Ministry, and KFAS for sponsoring the sustainable development programs in Kuwait. He also thanked the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specializations (KIMS).
