Attitude adjustment

Two days ago, I was driving on Riyadh Road - going to Kuwait City. All of a sudden, a driver changed from the extreme lane to the second right lane, without a signal and even without looking. The driver completely ignored all the safety regulations. Baffled and frankly shaken, I looked at the man just out of curiosity, but he did not like what I did later! It is my business to care about my safety and that of those in front, and behind me.

Even though the speed limit in the area is 120 km/hour, a lot of motorists choose to drive carelessly. Allah Almighty said in Sura Luqman verses 18 and 19: “And do not turn your face away from people in contempt, nor go about in the land exulting overmuch; surely Allah does not love any self-conceited boaster. And pursue the right course in your going about and lower your voice; surely the most hateful of voices is braying of the asses.” Verse 20 says, “Do you not see that Allah has made what is in the heavens and what is in the earth subservient to you and made complete to you his favors outwardly and inwardly? And among men is he who disputes in respect of Allah, having neither knowledge nor guidance nor a book giving light.”

Many people think the road is not part of the areas where one practices his or her belief. We need to assist people in need whenever and wherever they need it. Although the state and authorities do have rules and regulations to regulate motorists, we still need to be responsible so as to safeguard lives and properties. Let us all behave in a civil manner and help protect each other. May Almighty Allah bless you all.
