Forum discusses youths, sustainable development

KUWAIT: The official speaker of the Public Authority for Youth Affairs, Asrar Al-Ansari, stressed the importance of enhancing the role of youth in achieving sustainable development, which is one of the most prominent issues of current interest to the world in light of the growing threat of climate change and the persistence of unequal social conditions among the world’s societies. In a speech at the opening of the Youth Speak Forum organized by AIESEC Kuwait at the American University, Al-Ansari said: “Working hard to achieve sustainability is not just an option for the world’s youth but has become a duty towards themselves first and then for future generations.”

She explained that the forum discussed ways to promote sustainable development, provide quality education and suitable job opportunities for young people, achieve economic growth, and work to reduce climate change, adding that young people have new ideas and innovative solutions to achieve the necessary progress in these tracks. She said that young people have the potential to change policies, stimulate new technology, and lead societies towards addressing issues, especially with regard to protecting the environment or working for justice, praising the good organization of the forum, seminars, and distinguished lectures.

Al-Ansari pointed to the Authority’s keenness to participate in important youth forums held inside and outside the country to enable Kuwaiti youth to learn, develop, and create important spaces for them to gain experiences in light of the great support provided by the state. The Authority participated in the forum by providing support and participating in panel discussions dedicated to discussing the main topic of the forum. Experts and specialists raised awareness and exchanged experiences, opinions, and views in this regard.

For her part, the head of AIESEC Kuwait, Maysoon Al-Attar, said in a similar speech that the agenda of the forum, which is being held for the first time in Kuwait, was developed based on a questionnaire sent to young people to confirm meeting their requirements and needs. “It includes lectures from specialists and panel discussions in sustainability, as well as giving them global volunteer opportunities in this field,” she said. — KUNA
