Parliamentary life in a democratic system

Parliamentary life in democratic systems is governed by rules and conditions, with one of the most crucial being the ability of the people to choose their leaders for a set period. In some developing countries, including Kuwait, the journey toward full democratic functioning is ongoing. While Kuwait’s parliamentary experience is over 50 years old, it still encounters occasional stumbling blocks due to various reasons.

Recently, Kuwait held transparent parliamentary elections, resulting in the selection of 50 members to legislate and oversee the government’s performance on behalf of the people. Despite not fully adhering to democratic principles, this process represents a significant step forward. Kuwait, with its relatively small population and geographical size, hopes for a successful legislative term that can further the democratic process and ensure full representation of its citizens, governed by a leadership that garners unanimous support.

For many Kuwaitis, the Amiri system embodies success, emphasizing paternal guidance and tradition. It symbolizes a constructive relationship that they wish to perpetuate and enhance. While some countries operate under monarchy systems, successfully advancing development, others embrace full democracy, often leading to greater satisfaction and a sense of participation among the populace.

The diversity of ruling systems notwithstanding, the essence lies in the positive relationship between people and their leaders. In Kuwait, this relationship has predominantly been positive, and it is hoped that this continues to serve the country’s developmental goals while combating the corruption that has emerged as a concern in recent decades.

The expectations for the new representatives of the Kuwaiti people are high; they are urged to fulfill the hopes of their constituents and cultivate a constructive relationship with the country’s leadership. Similarly, there is a desire for the leaders to acknowledge and collaborate effectively with the elected representatives, thereby realizing the aspirations of the populace.
