KUWAIT: The ceremony to honor winners of Kuwait's 19th Grand Quran Memorization and Recitation Competition was held at Bayan Palace yesterday, under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The ceremony was attended by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanem, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, chairman of Kuwait's Supreme Judicial Council and the Cassation Court and President of the Constitutional Court Judge Yousef Al-Mutawa'a, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Deputy Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah and senior officials and sheikhs.

His Highness the Amir presented the awards to the winners of the competition, while the ceremony also included a movie presentation of the competition's history. In his speech at the event, Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Yaqoub Al-Sanea said that there were 200 winners out of 1,158 participants, representing 33 governmental and charitable bodies in the country. The competitions aims to spread the peaceful teachings and principles of the Quran, said the minister, adding that the General Secretariat of Awqaf will continue its efforts to develop society on all levels. - KUNA
