KUWAIT: Kuwait University President Dr Dina Al-Mailem reaffirmed the university’s dedication to empowering the younger generation through education in science, technology, and space sciences, underscoring its strategic role in preparing national talent for the future. In a statement delivered during the closing ceremony of the “Journey to Space” program, hosted by the Department of Physics at the College of Science, Dr Al-Mailem emphasized that the initiative aligns with the university’s vision to foster scientific excellence and innovation.
The event showcased student-led scientific activities from middle and high schools, and featured a distinguished visit by Emirati astronauts. Dr Al-Mailem stressed that this focus on scientific development comes in response to the evolving demands of a rapidly changing world, particularly in areas such as alternative energy, artificial intelligence, and advanced technologies. She noted that such initiatives reflect Kuwait’s broader vision to elevate its status among the world’s leading nations in scientific and technological fields.

Also speaking at the event, Dr Fahad Zaman, faculty member at the Department of Physics, highlighted that the “Journey to Space” program was launched as a collaborative effort between the College of Science and the College of Education, represented by Dr Abdullah Al-Failakawi, in coordination with the Ministry of Education’s General Technical Guidance for Science. Dr Zaman explained that the program sought to revitalize science education in public schools by introducing an engaging, interactive curriculum focused on space sciences.
Since its inception in October, the initiative has conducted numerous training workshops for teachers, equipping them with tools and methodologies to inspire students and promote interest in space exploration. As part of the event, UAE Minister of State for Youth Affairs and astronaut Dr Sultan Al Neyadi delivered a visual presentation detailing the challenges faced during space missions. He highlighted his own six-month journey aboard the International Space Station — a historic milestone as the longest space mission completed by an Arab astronaut.
Fellow Emirati astronaut Mohammed Al Mulla also spoke at the event, sharing insights into the intensive training astronauts undergo in preparation for spaceflight. Both astronauts delivered motivational remarks, encouraging students to pursue knowledge and strive toward achieving their goals and aspirations.
The exhibition took place at the College of Science in Sabah Al Salem University City, with the participation of over 300 students. The event was organized in collaboration with the College of Education and the Ministry of Education, and witnessed the presence of a distinguished delegation from the UAE, including astronauts Noura Al Matrooshi and Mohammed Al Mulla, UAE Ambassador to Kuwait Dr Matar Al Neyadi and Dr Sultan Al Neyadi.- KUNA
