KUWAIT: The Representative of UN Secretary-General and Resident Coordinator in the State of Kuwait Dr Tareq Al-Sheikh stressed Friday on "everlasting commitment" to work with partners in the country to protect achievements made in the field of children's rights. In a press release on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of World Children's Day, Sheikh said that his office seizes this opportunity to renew its commitment to work with partners in government institutions, civil society and other sectors to protect the achievements in this field from the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic and to rebuild upon such progress.

He explained that this year celebration is of great importance because it comes in the midst of a global health crisis. "Regardless of where we live, this pandemic affects us all and children in particular, just as it left an economic crisis that affected the budgets of governments and institutions. The private sector and thus on the living budgets of families," Sheikh added.

Meanwhile, the representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in the GCC region Adam Al-Tayib said that the repercussions of Coronavirus affected the field of childhood globally, so we must all work to "give them a better and more sustainable environment where they can grow and prosper."

Tayib stated that the global health crisis "has formed a crisis regarding children's rights around the world, and its effects may be immediate and may last for life if not addressed," adding that "it is time for generations to unite together to re-imagine the world they want." Children's Day is a commemorative date celebrated annually in honor of children, whose date of observance varies by country.
