NEW YORK: UNSecretary General Antonio Guterres praised Friday Kuwait's leading role at theinternational level, including its regional and global efforts to promotesecurity and peace around the world. Guterres made the remarks during a meetingwith Kuwait's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah KhaledAl-Hamad Al-Sabah in New York on sidelines of the UN Security Council'smeetings.
He commended theclose relationship and cooperation between Kuwait and the UN agencies, whichrepresented a "model of constructive and effective collaboration indifferent domains". The two senior officials discussed cooperation betweenKuwait and UN agencies as Kuwait is entering its second year as a non-permanentmember in the UNSC.
Sheikh SabahAl-Khaled and Guterres also discussed challenges facing the region, in additionto regional and international issues of mutual interest. The meeting wasattended by Assistant Foreign Minister for the Minister's Office Sheikh DrAhmad Nasser Al-Sabah, Kuwait Representative to the UN Mansour Al-Otaibi andAssistant Foreign Minister for International Organizations Affairs NasserAl-Hayyen. - KUNA
