KUWAIT: As many sports organizations in Kuwait are doing their best to return to their excellence of yesteryears, some are looking for more financial support as acknowledged by member of parliament Faisal Al-Kandary. He said that it should be done under the supervision of concerned authorities in order for Kuwait sport develop and catch up with other countries.
"It is not realistic to allocate minimal amounts and ask sports federations to make achievements and progress in winning championships," he said, adding that there should be legislations in favor of athletes. Al-Kandary was speaking during a gathering of leading sports and media personalities. The meeting was organized by the Chairman of Triathlon Club and Federation Rashed Al-Kandary on Tuesday evening.
MP Faisal Al-Kandary, Public Authority for Sports officials Hamid Al-Hazeem, Fahad Al-Mutairi, Former officials Saqer Al-Mulla and Ali Merwi attended the event. The gathering also included representatives from the football, basketball, volleyball, Karting, Taekwondo, bicycling, Winter games, Sea Club, Chairmen of Fahaheel, Burqan, Salmiya, Qurain and Sahel clubs. Al-Kandary said the current situation needs such gathering to bring athletes together in a friendly atmosphere.
Meanwhile, former Deputy Director General of PAS Saqer Al-Mulla thanked Rashed Al-Kandary for bringing the sport community together. "I am pleased with this gathering that brings those who are contributing to the development of Kuwait sport together. Kuwait sport will be better during the next five years through the activation of sports investment - and having financial income, implementing fulltime dedication for athletes as well as the professional system PAS officials are working on," he said.
