KUWAIT: Kuwait may retender or even cancel the Dabdaba solar power project given a long delay in awarding the tender and the current pandemic crisis. Kuwait National Petroleum Company, which is overseeing the project, is awaiting government approval for either the awarding to the tender to the lowest bidder at KD 439 million or canceling the current tender, reported Al-Rai Arabic newspaper.
Bidding for the solar power project, which would be the largest in Kuwait, has been extended several times since the tender was published in 2019. Four companies have been shortlisted but their bank guarantees expire mid-July. Dabdaba is planned to produce 1.5GW of electricity to Kuwait's power consumption.
