WASHINGTON: Thewife of Kuwait's Ambassador to the US Sheikha Rima Al-Sabah was named by aprominent US magazine as one of only two Arab women in the US capital's 2019Most Powerful Women. Sheikha Rima Al-Sabah, Goodwill Ambassador to UNHCR, wasnamed among the Washingtonian's 150 Most Powerful Women, being the only Arabwomen to be honored along with Saudi Ambassador to the US Princess Reema bintBandar Al-Saud.

Sheikha Rima wasamong 150 of "the area's most influential women in governance, business,law, education, media, nonprofits and the arts". She was ranked under"International Affairs" along with only two other women - the Saudiambassador to the US and German Ambassador Emily Haber. It was hardly asurprise for Sheikha Rima to make the list, especially as she, over the last 13years, was able to raise over $18 million through her gala dinners to supportwomen and children causes.

Sheikha Rima madethe list among other powerful women, such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi,Adviser to the President Ivanka Trump, White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway,Senator and 2020 presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren, Supreme Court JusticeRuth Bader Ginsburg and Mayor of the District of Columbia Muriel Bowser.

In remarks toKUNA, Sheikha Rima expressed her honor to be named one of the 2019Washingtonian's 150 Most Powerful Women, saying she gets this power from herloving and supporting family. She added she is forever grateful to her countryKuwait and the support it gives her to do the work she feels so passionateabout. She said it reflects "our leader, His Highness the Amir SheikhSabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who is passionate about Kuwait's role inaddressing a range of humanitarian causes". In 2018, the United NationsWomen for Peace Association (UNWFPA) presented Sheikha Rima with theprestigious Peace Award for her extraordinary philanthropic work for over adecade. - KUNA
