KUWAIT: A 5.0-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Ahmadi early Saturday, the Kuwait National Seismic Network (KNSN) said in a statement to KUNA. KNSN Director Dr Abdullah Al-Enezi said the quake struck at 4:28 am local time in Kuwait at depth of 5 kilometers, which was felt by a number of citizens and residents.
Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) confirmed on Saturday that its facilities and oil and gas production were not affected by the dawn earthquake. KOC said in a press statement that oil facilities stopped for a short period during the quake as a precautionary measure in accordance with the company's safety regulations, noting that its facilities are equipped with sensors that function automatically when exposed to any natural disasters.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works and the Public Authority for Roads and Transportation (PART) announced on Saturday that no roads or projects were affected by the earthquake. In a statement for KUNA, Ministry Spokesperson Ahmad Al-Saleh said no damage was recorded, and the ministry is continuing to check on roads to make sure everything is undamaged.
