KUWAIT: Salmiya Club won the HH the Crown Prince Cup yesterday for the second time in its history by beating Kuwait Club 1-0 in the finals, which was held under the patronage and attendance of HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Jaber Al-Sabah at the new Jaber Stadium.
Faisal Anzi scored the winning goal in the 74th minute. A fireworks display was held and gifts were also distributed to the spectators. Salmiya Club won its first title in this competition in 2001, while Kuwait Club has won the title five times - in 1994, 2003 and 2008, 2010 and 2011.
Qadsiya Club holds the record number of wins in this competition with eight titles, Arabi Club with seven, followed by Kuwait Club, Salmiya Club and Kazma Club, which only won the title once, in 1995. Upon his arrival at the venue, HH the Crown Prince was received by Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, Director General of The Public Authority for Sport (PAS) Sheikh Ahmad Al-Mansour Al- Ahmad Al-Sabah, President of Kuwait Football Association (KFA) Sheikh Talal Fahad Al-Ahmad Al- Sabah, Chairman of Salmiya Sporting Club Sheikh Turki Al-Yousef Al-Sabah, Chairman of Kuwait Sporting Club Abdulaziz Fahad Al-Marzouq, and a number of senior officials in PAS, KFA, and the event’s supreme organizing committee. The event was attended by National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanem, HH Sheikh Nasser Al- Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and a number of senior officials. — KUNA
