KUWAIT: Kuwait Industries Union (KIU) kicked off the KIU Expo yesterday at Al- Baraka Hall in Crowne Plaza Hotel under the auspices of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah and with attendance of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
After the opening ceremony, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the organization of the fair which was exceptional in terms of participation of all national industries. The premier asserted the keenness and seriousness of the government in improving trade and industry environment in the country and to work on preparing legislations and laws to push forward the private sector and improve the country’s industrial capabilities.
The premier also expressed hope in organizing similar fairs and raising public awareness on the role of the private sector. Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Planning and Development Hind Al-Sabeeh said that Kuwait is interested in further developing national industries by including projects in a five-year plan to encourage young people to enter the industrial field through small and medium enterprises.
Al-Sabeeh added that there is an important role for cooperative societies in promoting the national product. She confirmed that the government is supporting the industrial sector in terms of legislation or to facilitate financial and technical support offered by the Public Authority for Industry. She explained that the Ministry of Planning and Development is interested in all employment sectors to accomplish the vision and guidance of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah to transform Kuwait into a commercial and financial center.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anas Al-Saleh, Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, Minister of Commerce and Industry Dr Yousif Mohammad Al-Ali, state officials, ambassadors, industrialists and businessmen. The second Kuwaiti Industries Union exhibition will last until 20 October.
