KUWAIT: A number of contracted employees working at West Doha power plant staged a protest outside the Indian embassy yesterday to demand their unpaid salaries. Commenting on the issue, Abdullah Al-Motoutah, Acting Director of the Public Authority for Manpower, confirmed that the protest was because the employees' salaries had been delayed. Motoutah added that the authority's investigators rushed to the scene and advised the employees to check with relevant labor departments to get help in resolving their problems. Further, Motoutah stressed that all possible measures would be taken to protect the employees' rights and pay them the overdue salaries, even if it means liquidating the financial guarantee deposited by the company.

Smoking areas

The Environment Public Authority (EPA) is currently preparing studies on places where smoking could be allowed by inviting engineering bureaus and specialized consultancies to take part in the study within two weeks after publicizing the call. EPA also urged interested engineering offices to pay the annual fees of KD 5,000 to be accredited to design and build smoking cabins.

Road project

The Ministry of Public Works' (MPW) assistant undersecretary for roads engineering affairs Ahmed Al-Hassan said that an exit at Jamal Abdul Nasser development project will open at dawn tomorrow. He added that the exit is 150 meters' long and would serve traffic coming through the recently opened bridge towards Ghernata. Hassan added that launching this part of the project is part of several others to be completed soon as previously announced.
