KUWAIT: The acting director of the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR), Meshaal Al-Qurayfah has said that the support of local farmers and their produce is a governmental priority.
Al-Qurayfah has called to institute a public contributing company to market local agriculture produce and organize more exhibitions to support local food security and reduce prices.
"The agriculture authority attaches great importance to local agriculture, supporting its marketing, and working with the Union of Cooperative Societies as well as the Social Affairs ministry to remove obstacles that Kuwaiti farmers face in marketing their products and provide them in cooperative societies. This is probably the most important for farmers and local agriculture," Al-Qurayfah said.
"What we have seen today is a diversity of products and the superior quality of the imported products. Competitive prices are heartening and motivate us to increase the support for Kuwaiti farmers," he said, indicating that the coming days will witness unlimited support and unprecedented coordination with concerned authorities to meet the aspirations of farmers.
He noted the interest of the political leadership in supporting Kuwaiti farmers as the cornerstone of providing food security, pointing out that the endeavor to exert all efforts to encourage them to continue and develop their production.
He concluded by calling on associations in various regions in Kuwait to open their doors to the local products, and called on citizens and residents to buy and support local agriculture, expressing his thanks to those in charge of the Ashbiliya Cooperative Society for designating a place to organize an exhibition for farmers and to market their local products. - KUNA
