KUWAIT: A motorist was killed while another was severely wounded in an accident reported yesterday at Subbiya Road. The Kuwaiti man was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics who arrived shortly after the accident was reported. The other driver, an expatriate, was rushed to the hospital after firemen freed him from his wracked vehicle. An investigation was opened to determine the circumstances behind the accident.

No injuries in fire

A fire was reported at cabin in Failaka Island yesterday. When firemen arrived to the scene, they discovered that the fire had started in a small room made from corrugated galvanized metal, which had a motor that runs on diesel inside. The house was evacuated and the fire put out without injuries.

Crackdown

Residency department affairs' detectives carried out an unscheduled campaign at the fish market yesterday, which resulted in arresting 34 violators of residency law.

Restricted zone

Land border security men arrested five citizens inside a restricted zone. The men had cut the metal mesh fence behind the Sukhaibri. The five men were in the area on a picnic. A ministerial decision was issued earlier designating the off-limits areas including the border strip of the state of Kuwait. They include the northern borders extending from the closest islands on the shores of Bahaith area, to the end of the Kuwaiti-Saudi-Iraqi border triangle with a total length of 217 km and width of 5.5 km. They also include the southern borders that extend from Salmi center in the west in the direction of the south to Nuwaiseeb shores at a length of 237 km and width of 3 km with the border line with Saudi Arabia.

Fireman's Day

Brigadier Jamal Al-Bulaihees, Deputy Director General for Fighting Sector, Head of the Celebrations Committee at Kuwait Fire Services Directorate (KFSD) said the 14th Fireman's Day celebration will be held under the patronage of State Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Acting Minister of Electricity and Water Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdallah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah from March 3 to March 5, 2016, to coincide with the celebration of the International Day of Civil Protection which falls on March 1st each year.
