Officer acquitted of abuse of power

KUWAIT: Dr Wafaa Al-Hashash, a consultant in internal medicine, digestive system and liver diseases, discussed a groundbreaking approach to weight reduction and obesity management without the need for surgery. She referred to this method as “stomach Botox,” which involves a gastroscopic procedure and does not necessitate an extended hospital stay. Additionally, it carries minimal side effects.

According to Dr Hashash, patients can potentially shed 10 to 15 kg within six months using this technique. Stomach Botox entails the injection of Botox into the stomach through gastroscopy to temporarily relax the stomach muscles. This relaxation prolongs the feeling of fullness, which can contribute to weight loss.

Dr Hashash emphasized that stomach Botox is not suitable for all individuals struggling with excess weight. Patients with a body mass index (BMI) exceeding 40 are not eligible for this procedure. It is also not recommended for pregnant or lactating women, as well as individuals under the age of 18. This procedure is primarily designed for individuals with a BMI ranging from 27 to 40 who have difficulty controlling their appetite despite multiple attempts to adopt a healthier lifestyle. It is particularly suitable for those experiencing health issues associated with obesity, such as hypertension, as well as bone, joint and spinal pain.

Dr Hashash reassured that stomach Botox is a safe procedure with minimal side effects, typically limited to post-gastroscopy fatigue and tiredness. During the procedure, the doctor injects Botox into the stomach wall muscles, reducing their movement and contractions, subsequently slowing digestion and stomach emptying into the intestines. This, in turn, triggers signals of fullness to the brain, helping the patient feel satiated for an extended period.
