KUWAIT: Pursuing its dedication to promote financial culture and raise awareness among the different segments of society, National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) continues its support of the “Let’s Be Aware” campaign launched by the Central Bank of Kuwait, in cooperation with local banks and Kuwait Banking Association (KBA). In this regard, NBK seeks to raise awareness among customers about the risks associated with scanning untrusted QR codes at public places, stores, restaurants or health clubs, inside or outside Kuwait, as well as ads with fake lucrative profits, which may lead users to fake websites and phishing forms.

The risks of QR code scams lie in leading customers to a webpage to enter their personal information, which may be visible to fraudsters who have designed it specifically to lure victims, or download a file that may help fraudsters control customers’ devices. Therefore, NBK intensifies warning against disclosing or entering any banking data on untrusted websites. The bank also reaffirms that it will never ask customers for personal information. Also, websites that ask people to enter their banking information are usually untrusted, especially if the log in QR code is irrelevant to the place you are at like restaurants, health clubs, or ads posted in streets and shopping complexes.

With the increasing scamming types and schemes used by fraudsters, NBK intensifies the content related to the “Let’s Be Aware” campaign by sharing educational and awareness material on its social media platforms as well as all communication channels. This aims to increase awareness among customers and followers and familiarize them with the various fraud techniques to avoid falling victim to these attempts. NBK harnesses its huge capabilities in communicating with customers as well as all its digital channels, which are the most popular among all Kuwaiti banks, to ensure the widest exposure for the messages of this awareness campaign.

It is worth mentioning that NBK makes consistent endeavors to raise awareness among customers, being a fundamental part of its strategy. To this end, it always uses all communication channels to educate them on the necessity to keep their passwords/PINs and financial and personal information confidential, and not to reveal it to anyone impersonating the bank, including the one-time password (OTP).

NBK is a key supporter and partner in all CBK’s campaigns and initiatives aiming to increase financial and banking awareness among different segments of society. As a leading financial institution in Kuwait, NBK frequently organizes various activities to raise awareness on all topics related to the banking sector, as well as various training courses for its employees to enhance their experience in the areas of combating fraud and financial crime.
