KUWAIT: Kuwait Municipality said Ahmadi municipal teams inspected various cafes, barbershops, spas and salons in the governorate's areas to make sure all Ministry of Health (MoH) regulations about using facemasks, gloves and sanitizers as well as banning shisha as a precaution against the potential spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) are fully respected and implemented.

In this regard, the municipality's auditing and service follow-up manager Saad Al-Shaibah said the inspection tour covered 420 stores and resulted in filing 140 citations for hiring workers without health certificates and violating MoH regulations in some cafes and around 120 spas.

In other news, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) said its emergency teams had inspected 102 pharmacies, stores and vegetable outlets to make sure they followed standards regulations, adding that the tour resulted in filing 14 citations for various violations. In a different concern, MoCI announced that the total weight of precious metals it stamped in February was two tons, for which it collected KD 119,000 in fees.

A statement issued by MoCI in this regard explained that the stamped precious metals included 1.4 tons of gold - comprising of 659 kg of local and 733 kg of imported gold. The statement explained that stamped 22 carat gold included 146.8 kg of local and 305.6 kg of imported gold, while 21 carat gold totaled 493.8 kg and 18 carat gold 942 kg.
