KUWAIT: Health Minister Dr Ali Al-Obaidi yesterday gave orders to form a committee to investigate the circumstances behind the death of a Kuwaiti patient who died at a public hospital recently. The decision came in response to public demands to investigate the case in which medical error is suspected to have caused the death of Saud Al-Juwaied Al-Azmi at Jahra Hospital.
The investigation will cover all the patient's treatment stages, and appropriate legal procedures will be taken if the results confirm that his death was indeed caused by a medical error, Obaidi told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) yesterday. "The ministry of health shows zero tolerance with regards to safeguarding the safety of citizens and residents, including any errors in medical procedures they receive at any of the ministry's facilities," Obaidi said. He added that the ministry had previously terminated the contracts of a number of doctors after confirming they had committed medical errors. - KUNA
