KUWAIT: Kuwait and Asia Disabled Shot put Champion Faisal Surour took third place and the bronze medal in the F38 Shot put category in the world athletics championship (Paris 2023) as he recorded 17.01 meters. First place went to Colombia’s Jose Limos with 18.26 meters, and second place went to Britain’s Michael Jekins (7.14 meters).
Kuwait is participating with seven athletes in wheelchair running, discus throw, and shot put. The games will conclude on July 17th. 1,200 athletes from 107 countries are participating. Chairman of the Paralympics athletics committee and head of the delegation Nasser Al-Ajmi dedicated the achievement of Surour to HH the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and the Kuwaiti people.
He said, "This is a major achievement added to Kuwait’s disabled athletes honorable record. Surour was able to break his previous personal record of 16:46 meters.” Kuwaiti athletes gave good performances during the world athletics championship despite competition from the best athletes in the world. As Faisal Al-Rajhi qualified for the 800 meters wheelchair running in the T54 category, he also qualified for the Paralympics games in Paris 2024 as he finished fourth in the 5,000 meters wheelchair run.
