DOHA: Kuwait's shooter Saud Habib has booked a fourth berth at 2020 Tokyo Olympics after winning the third place on Sunday in the Skeet game at the 14th Asian Shooting Championship held in Qatar. In the same contest, India won the first and second positions.
In the teams' contest of the same championship, Kuwait's Abdullah Al-Rashidi, Habib and Mohammad Al-Daihani ranked the second place, winning the silver medal in the Skeet, while Qatar came first and India third. Speaking to KUNA, head of Kuwait Shooting Federation (KSF) Duaij Al-Otaibi lauded the achievements made by the Kuwaiti athletes, which helped them book another berth at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
He said that Kuwait's athletes Habib, Talal Al-Rashidi and Abdullah Al-Faihan qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in this championship, while their compatriot Mansour Al-Rashidi had previously qualified for Tokyo. The Kuwaiti shooters have made a brilliant performance at regional and international championships, winning several medals at the Asian tournaments, he noted. He stressed keenness of the KSF to do its best to create a propitiate environment to help the shooters make many accomplishments.
Al-Otaibi congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah as well as the Kuwaiti people on the achievements made by the country's shooters. For his part, Secretary General of Kuwait and Arab Shooting Federations Obaid Al-Osaimi expressed his happiness for Kuwait's fourth qualifying card in this tournament, which is witnessing a strong competition of shooting champions in the Asian continent.
Al-Osaimi said that the KSF is working on an integrated program for the Kuwaiti athletes in the coming period, which will witness international participations, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in August. The Kuwaiti shooters will take part in an experimental tournament in Tokyo next April, he said, pointing to organizing training camps in South Korea and Italy as well as Kuwait in preparation for His Highness the Amir Shooting Cup, which will feature world's shooting champions.
He thanked the wise political leadership, the government and all bodies supporting the shooting for their efforts led to the achievements by the Kuwaiti shooters on the continental and international levels. In addition, shooter Habib also expressed his delight for qualifying for 2020 Tokyo Olympics, stressing his keenness on making several accomplishments in the next tourney.
