Amir congratulates Kuwaiti shooters for international medals
KUWAIT: Kuwait's Information Minister Mohammad Al-Jabri has welcomed the International Olympic Committee's announcement of a six-party committee tasked with designing a roadmap after a sports ban on Kuwait was provisionally lifted. The committee, which holds its first meeting next week, aims to make sure that Kuwait's Olympic ban is totally removed, Jabri, who also serves as Minister of State for Youth Affairs, told reporters yesterday. The minister hoped that future international events would mark the triumphant return of Kuwaiti athletes, encouraging them to go above and beyond to attain glory for the nation.
Meanwhile, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sent yesterday cables of congratulations to Kuwait shooting team members who have won medals in the 52nd world championship, held in Changwon, South Korea. The cables were sent to members of the Kuwaiti trap shooting team, Abdulrahman Al-Faihan, Khaled Al-Mudaf, and Talal Al-Rashidi who have won gold medals in the trap team's competition, in addition to securing a bronze medal by Al-Faihan in the individual competition. In the cables, His Highness the Amir wished the athletes more future success to accomplish more achievements for Kuwait in regional and international championships. His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah sent similar cables to the Kuwaiti champions.
In the meantime, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah sent cables of congratulations to horse rider Ali Al-Kharafi and athletes Essa Al-Zankawi and Hussain Al-Mesri for winning medals in the 18th session Asian Games, held lately in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Defense Minister sent a cable of congratulations to Al-Kharafi for grabbing a gold medal in equestrian jumping contests, Directorate of Moral Guidance and Public Relations in the Kuwaiti Army said in a statement yesterday. The Minister also sent a cable of congratulations to athlete Essa Al-Zankawi for winning a bronze medal in discus throw, as well as athlete Hussain Al-Mesri for bagging a bronze medal in Kurash wrestling. The Defense Minister praised efforts exerted by the Kuwaiti athletes in the Asian games, wishing them further success and progress to better serve their country under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Crown Prince. - KUNA
