BEIRUT: Planeloads of Kuwaiti aid continued to pour into Lebanon almost a week after a catastrophic port explosion sparked a tide of destruction that tore through its capital Beirut. Two planes carrying 100 tons of urgent supplies landed in Beirut on Monday to bring the total of aid-laden aircrafts to have flown into the ravaged city to nine, said Abdullah Al-Shaheen, an advisor at Kuwait's embassy in Lebanon.

Kuwait was among the first countries to have sent aid to Lebanon in the wake of a powerful blast in port warehouses near central Beirut, which wrought destruction across swathes of the Mediterranean city. An international donor conference on Sunday raised pledges worth nearly $298 million for a country that had already been in the throes of economic collapse prior to last week's tragic blast. - KUNA
