KUWAIT: Kuwait Women Boxing team won the lion’s share of gold medals in the first International Boxing Championship. The team won four first places out of seven final bouts that concluded on Friday at the Boxing Federation Hall in Sabah Al-Salem Area in the presence of Kuwait Olympic Committee member Fatima Hayat and members of Boxing Federation Board chaired by Mohammad Mansi.

The tournament saw 32 boxers from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Germany, Nigeria, Jordan and Tunis participating. Fatima Hayat said she was happy Kuwait held the first international boxing tournament, as well as the achievements of the Kuwaiti boxers and the positive participation of Saudi boxers.

Chairman of Boxing Federation Mohammad Mansi said the Women International Tournament succeeded in having good representation of Kuwaiti women adding that the first international participation of female boxers was distinguished and successful.

Results of the tournament were as follows: Faddah Al-Asfour (from Kuwait) won the first place in the 50 kg category after defeating Saudi Arabia’s Atheer Abdulaziz. In the 54 kg, Rawan Al-Musallam won the second gold medal by defeating Sarah Al-Shahrani (from Saudi Arabia). Salma Al-Sammari (Saudi) won the gold medal. In the 60 Kg, Christine Reuters (Germany) won gold while silver went to Saudi Arabia’s Reem Abdallah.

The 66kg category was all Kuwaiti as Noura Al-Mutairi defeated Moudhi Al-Muzaiel. Iman Al-Mudhaf won first place at the 75 kg category by defeating Latifa Buarki. Egypt’s Joury Sameer won the gold medal (80 kg) by defeating her compatriot Sarah Refaat.
