BEIRUT: Taekwondo athletes from Kuwait stockpiled an octad of medals amid stiff competition at the 2019 Beirut Open Taekwondo Tournament. The Kuwaiti Taekwondo fighters claimed a pair of gold medals, one silver and five bronzes, according to the head of the Kuwaiti delegation to the event Ali Bin Haider, who spoke to KUNA via telephone yesterday.
"We are proud of our national team and congratulate the athletes on their impressive performances," said Kuwait's consul general in Beirut Fawaz Al-Qahtani, who was among the legions of spectators.
Some 600 Taekwondo fighters from all over the globe have assembled in the Lebanese capital for the tournament, which guarantees the winners a berth in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games. - KUNA
