KUWAIT: Dr Hala Al-Jassar, Director of the National Project for Kuwait's First Educational Satellite and member of the teaching faculty at Kuwait University's Physics Department said that (Kuwait Sat-1) is ready to launch by the end of the year.

Dr Al-Jassar said in a press statement on the occasion of celebrating the world space week, that the launch was announced as part of the national project for the first Kuwait Satellite (Kuwait Sat-1) that is supported by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences in cooperation with several departments at the Colleges of Sciences and Engineering and Petroleum. She said that the data reception station will be established soon and will be located in the northern building of the College of Sciences.

Dr Al-Jassar said that the project which has been in progress for three years comes out of the belief in the importance of the university's role in this field and aims at building youth capabilities in the field of manufacturing satellites.

She also said that the College of Sciences has planned an exhibition on the sciences and technology of space on November 1st and 2nd, coinciding with the future launch of (Kuwait Sat-1), in order to display the latest in the field of space science and technology in the southern building of the College of Sciences at the Sabah Al-Salem University City.

"The idea for the project came from the Kuwait University with the support of KFAS, carried out in cooperation with the government entities such as the Public Authority for Communications and Information Technology and Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research," she added.

She said the project aims at training students in designing and constructing nanometric satellites, in addition to, establishing the first space lab in Kuwait University to become a center for space industry research and development. - KUNA
