KUWAIT: The fifth consultative meeting between the Islamic Committee of the international Crescent and the National Societies of the Red Crescent and the Red Cross of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries under the slogan "permanent interdependence for a lasting impact" with Kuwaiti participation began in the Saudi city of Jeddah on Sunday.

The head of the Kuwaiti delegation at the meeting, Deputy Chairman of the board of Directors of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society Anwar Al-Hasawi, stressed in a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) the importance of permanent consultation between the Islamic Committee of the international Crescent and the National Societies of the Crescent and the Red Cross in the OIC countries to reach the countries affected by natural disasters, wars or conflicts and provide a helping hand to those in need.

Hasawi said that the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society is keen to participate in these meetings, which aim to serve people wherever they are, regardless of their gender, religion, or ethnicity, in accordance with the Seven Principles of the Geneva Conventions. He said that the association has a great role in the humanitarian field, through which aid and assistance has been provided to more than 100 countries in the world since the establishment of the association in 1966, pointing to Kuwait's status as the first humanitarian center and its classification as a center for humanitarian action by the United Nations.

The meeting, which comes under the auspices of the Emir of the Makkah Region, Prince Khalid bin Faisal, and in the presence of representatives of national associations from 56 countries, aims to unite efforts and facilitate joint humanitarian work. The agenda of the first day of the meeting discussed the digital transformation in humanitarian work with the participation of several countries who shared their experiences with digital transformation. – KUNA
