KUWAIT: His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and his government for oath-taking Monday. Here are the biographies for the prime minister and 15 ministers included in the new cabinet, which is the 43rd in Kuwait's history:
His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah: Born in Kuwait in 1956, he is the son of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. He got a BA in commerce from Kuwait University, joined the military and was promoted to the rank of General. After retirement from the Ministry of Interior, His Highness Sheikh Ahmad was named as Governor of Hawalli. In November 2020, an Amiri Decree appointed him as Vice President of the National Guard with the rank of a minister. In March 2022, an Amiri Decree appointed him as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. In July 2022, an Amiri Decree designated him as Prime Minister for the first time. In August 2022, an Amiri Decree bestowed on him the title of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Government Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah: He got a Bachelor of Business Administration from a British college. Since 1983, Sheikh Talal had served in different capacities in the oil sector at Kuwait Oil Co. and then at Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC). He was named as Minister of Defense in March 2022 under an Amiri Decree. In July 2022, Sheikh Talal doubled as acting Minister of Interior. In October 2022, a decree was issued appointing him to the position of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. In December 2022, Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah was doubled as Acting Defense Minister. In April 2023, a decree was issued appointing him to the positions of First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Acting Minister of Defense in the government formed by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah: Born in 1963, Sheikh Ahmad Fahad holds a bachelor's degree in economics and political science. He undertook numerous national and international sporting positions. He was appointed Chairman and Director General of the Public Authority for Youth and Sports with the rank of Minister. On February 14, 2001, he was appointed Minister of Information, and he was appointed Acting Minister of Oil on February 10, 2003. In April 2005, he was named Minister of Energy and Acting Minister of Health. In 2006, he was appointed head of the National Security Apparatus, with the rank of minister. On May 29, 2009, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Minister of State for Development Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs. On May 8, 2011, he was named Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State for Housing Affairs and Minister of State for Development Affairs.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Essa Ahmad Al-Kandari: He was born in 1963. He graduated from the Commercial Institute, majoring in banking. He was appointed Minister of Transportation and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs in 2013. In December 2020, he was appointed Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and he kept his post in the government that was formed in March 2021. In December 2021, a decree was issued naming him Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs. He worked at the Kuwait Airways Corporation as a development and research expert. He won membership in the National Assembly in 2013, 2016, 2020, 2022 and 2023 elections. He is a member of the Kuwait Journalists Association, the Arab Journalists Association, the Human Rights Association, and a board member of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Deputy Prime Minister, Oil Minister, and Minister of State for Economic and Investment Affairs Dr Saad Hamad Nasser Al-Barrak: He holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering, an MSc in Systems Engineering from Ohio University and a PhD in Information Systems and Technology Management from the University of London. He has been the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Fund for Small and Medium Enterprises Development since October 2018 and a member of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development since 2019, as well as the Vice-Chairman of the Office of Social Development which is affiliated to the Amiri Diwan. He served as CEO and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Zain Group between 2002 and 2010 and held the same positions in several companies. In 2005, he received the Middle East's 'CEO of the Year' award in the Information Communication Technology sector, and in 2003 he received the 'E-businessman of the Year' award in the region.
Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Communications Affairs Fahad Ali Al-Shula: Born in 1965, he got a BA in geography and a diploma in geodesy from the College of Technological Studies, the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET). In April 2023, he was appointed Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Communications Affairs. He was appointed as Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs in 2018. He served as undersecretary at the Municipal Council's secretariat in 2011.
Minister of Information and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi: He holds a BA in psychology from Kuwait University. He served as Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs in the cabinets of December 2020, March 2021 and April 2023. In 2016, Al-Mutairi was appointed as Director General of the Public Authority for Youth, after serving as assistant undersecretary of the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs between 2014 and 2015. He also served as director of the technical office of the Minister of Information in 2012 and attache at Kuwait information office in Rabat between 2004 and 2007.
Minister of Health Dr Ahmad Abdelwahab Ahmad Al-Awadi: He holds a PhD in Pediatrics (Kuwait Board) from the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialization, a PhD in medicine (MD) from the Arabian Gulf University in the Kingdom of Bahrain and a BA in basic sciences from the same university. He worked previously as a pediatric consultant and director of Wara Hospital, head of the Kuwait Cancer Control Center in Al-Sabah Specialized Medical District. He also worked as Director of the Palliative Care Center in the same area and Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital. He served as Acting Director of Jahra Health District and Director of Jahra Hospital.
Minister of Public Works Dr Amani Suleiman Abdelwahab Bouqmaz: She holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Kuwait University, a Master's degree in civil engineering from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara and a PhD in civil engineering from Columbus Ohio University. On October 16, 2022, she was designated as Minister of Public Works and Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy. On April 9, 2023, she was appointed Minister of Public Works. She served previously as an assistant professor at Kuwait University and a member of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences.
Minister of Education, Minister of Higher Education Dr Hamad Al-Adwani: He holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the Kuwait University and a PhD degree in chemical engineering from the University of Texas. In October 2022 he was named as Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. He kept his position in the cabinet formed on April 9, 2023. He served previously as Director General of the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ), an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Acting Dean of Admission and Registration at Kuwait University.
Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah: He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the American University of Beirut. He was named as Foreign Minister in the cabinets formed on October 16, 2022 and on April 9, 2023. He served previously as Kuwait Ambassador to the United States of America until 2022. He was a member of the Kuwaiti permanent delegation to the United Nations, as Minister Plenipotentiary. He served as Kuwait's Ambassador to the Republic of Korea from 1998 to 2001, and in the Office of the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and a diplomatic attache at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Minister of Commerce and Industry and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Mohammad Othman Al-Aiban: He holds a bachelor’s degree in administrative science. He was named Minister of Commerce and Industry in the government formed on April 9, 2023. He served as deputy CEO of the Kuwait Finance and Investment Company (KFIC) in 2014. Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic and Investment Affairs Manaf Abdulaziz Al-Hajeri: He got a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Kuwait University in 1986 and a Master's degree in 1990. On April 9, 2023, he was appointed as Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic and Investment Affairs. He served as a Board member of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) and the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance of Education.
Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Dr Jassem Muhammad Abdullah Al-Ostad: He held the position of Director of the Computer Department at the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training and Deputy Director General of the Authority's Academic Support Services. He also held the position of Acting Deputy Director General for Planning and Development and a member of the Board of Directors of the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance.
Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Faleh Abdullah Eid Faleh Al-Rguba: He holds a master's degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts, USA, in addition to a bachelor's degree in commerce, economics and political science from Kuwait University. He held several posts at the Kuwait Stock Exchange. He also worked in the Kuwait Clearing Company and was the Deputy General Manager of the company for Financial and Administrative Affairs.
Minister of Social Affairs, Family Affairs and Childhood Feras Saud Al-Malek Al-Sabah: He served as Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of State for National Assembly Affairs. -- KUNA
