GENEVA: Kuwait's permanent envoy to the United Nations Ambassador, Nasser Al-Hayen commended Wednesday the humanitarian role of International Organization for Migration (IOM) in caring for victims of armed conflicts and natural disasters. This came in Al-Hayen's statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) following his meeting with IOM chief, Antonio Vitorino, at its headquarters in Geneva. The two officials discussed challenges facing humanitarian situations around the world.
Vitorino said that the rapid succession of hardships including the coronavirus pandemic, the food security issue and energy crisis is causing an accumulation of crises. Ambassador Al-Hayen stressed to the UN official, Kuwait's support in organizing and providing care for victims, namely Arab nations including Syria and Yemen and other nations suffering from the effects of climate change including Horn of Africa and Pakistan.
Vitorino conveyed his gratitude on behalf of the organization to Kuwait, calling it a main partner in facing regional and international crises. He lauded the role of humanitarian organizations' and called on international community members to provide support for such organizations. - KUNA
