KUWAIT: Kuwait national tennis team made yet another achievement in the Davis Cup qualifiers, being held in Hanoi, Vietnam as they defeated Saudi Arabia 3-0, Jordan 3-0 and Qatar 2-1. With Qatar Mohammad Al-Ghareeb won his match, while Abdullah Maqdis lost his match. A tie breaker match was played in the doubles and was won by the team of Ghareeb and Maqdis.

Kuwait, with this win, remains in third group and very close to move the second group in which it remained from 2012 until 2017. Kuwait's Mohammad Al-Ghareeb won his first singles match with Syria, and Abdallah Maqdis lost his match, so a doubles match was played and won by Kuwait's team making it their fourth win, which guarantees their move to the second group of Davis Cup.

Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Syria, Malaysia, Cambodia, and the host country participated in the Hanoi qualifiers.

With the three wins, Mohammad Al-Ghareeb enters the 100 club as he broke through the 100 matches barrier he played in this championship for over 22 years, and he will be honored by the International Tennis Federation in appreciation of his achievement, which only few players have reached around the world.

Kuwait was represented in addition to Al-Ghareeb and Maqdis, Abdelhameed Jumaa, Bader Antar, Essa Qabazard and captain Adel Al-Shatti. The team was headed by Faleh Al-Otaibi, and matches were attended by Vice-president of Kuwait Tennis Federation Abdelsamad Al-Aryan.
