KUWAIT: Under the sponsorship of Acting Vice President for Research department, Dr Othman Al-Khudur a workshop "The Way to Obtain Patents" was held for members of the academic staff and postgraduate students on Sunday in the Innovation Hall at the Khalidiya University Campus. Dr Nasser Al-Sayegh, Associate Scientific Researcher at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research made a presentation during the workshop.

Dr Nasser Al-Sayegh said "Most inventions are discovered by chance through research activities, but the time has come for change and discovery of inventions through more organized methods. We seek through the workshop to guide researchers towards a successful roadmap for discovery and obtaining patents in an interesting, simple and fun way."

"The workshop is aimed at helping researchers to identify and discover potential inventions from challenges they face in their daily lives, by introducing them to patents, providing steps to develop ideas into patents, and how to think like an inventor, in addition to introducing them to the various search engines specialized in patents.

Moreover, the workshop also offered how to write the application form for patents, and on the evaluation process to obtain patents, as working groups were finally formed to develop potential patents to be added to the scientific archive of Kuwait University," he clarified.

Assistant Vice director for External Research Cooperation and Consultations, Dr Haneen Al-Ghabra, said: "Within the framework of continuing research cooperation between Kuwait University and scientific institutions to support inventions and inventors, cooperation took place with Dr Nasser Al-Sayegh from the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research to present a workshop entitled "The way to obtaining patents" for the students of Kuwait University."

"We seek to raise the academic and scientific level of Kuwait University, and to work towards improving its global classification and increasing the number of researchers who obtain patents, distinguished in the field of higher education and scientific research," she added.
