BEIRUT: Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) announced on Monday allocating $500,000 to secure anti-coronavirus vaccines for Lebanese people, Syrian and Palestinian refugees. The announcement came during a meeting held between Lebanon's Minister of Health Mohammad Hassan, KRCS Deputy Chairman Anwar Al-Hasawi and Head of KRCS's mission in Beirut Dr Musaad Al-Enezi.
The Lebanese Minister hailed Kuwait's extraordinary and unprecedented humanitarian efforts exerted for his country. "The KRCS initiative comes as part of distinguished initiatives of Kuwaiti government and people," Minister Hassan said. KRCS supports Lebanon's efforts in encountering health challenges, especially during such exceptional living, economic and political conditions, he said.
He acclaimed Kuwait's support to public hospitals, including its funding for restoration of emergency wards. Offering COVID-19 vaccinations supports efforts to combat this pandemic, a matter that became the main source of interest for all the globe's peoples, and represents the intentions of KRCS in supporting the society segments suffering from poor economic and living conditions, minister Hassan noted.
Hasawi affirmed that the KRCS would continue relief support for the country, its people and refugees. He also shed light on latest assistance KRCS offered to the country following Beirut Port's massive explosion back in August of the year 2020 which left extensive destruction and damage in the city.
Meanwhile, Enezi said this initiative will be launched soon with attendance of KRCS Chairman Dr Hilal Al-Sayer and a Kuwaiti medial team. It will be coordination with international organizations namely United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). - KUNA
