KUWAIT: KPTC marks its 60th anniversary on Tuesday, with the company's buses seen roaming the streets of Kuwait and connecting citizens and residents to their destinations since 1962. KPTC's affordable prices and well-connected bus lines makes it a chosen mode of transportation for many and has even left a significant imprint on its clients as it has been featured in popular songs.
It was established in 1962 as a joint venture between entrepreneurs and the public sector. KPTC was created to answer the demand of a rapidly developing infrastructure and the growing number of working hands and technicians in need of transportation to travel to and from their working places. The actual operation of the company began in 1965 with 280 buses, growing steadily over the years to reach around 1,000 buses.
Current buses are equipped with modern air conditioning, sun protection technologies, interior and exterior cameras, separate seating for ladies and designated accessible seats for people with special needs. Its services also expanded to include bus rental services for trips within Kuwait or outside, Umrah trips with residence and entry visas for Makkah and Madinah visas.
Furthermore, the company includes public sea transport to Failaka Island. CEO Mansour Al-Saad stated that the company is trying to appeal to citizens to reduce road congestion. In an attempt to be more eco-conscious, the company is also planning to use ecofriendly buses to curb pollution, starting with an electric bus trial, to be launched later on. - KUNA
