KUWAIT: Shuwaikhcustoms officers suspected a 40-ft container that was reportedly carryingspices, but when inspected, banned tobacco was found in the third row. Thecontainer arrived at Shuwaikh Port from a Gulf country yesterday and had morethan 1.9 million packs of paan and chewing tobacco with a value of KD 200,000.
Khaitan murder
Security forcesarrested a group of Indian nationals who demonstrated in downtown Kuwait Cityholding banners demanding the execution of a compatriot in India, said securitysources. An Indian man was found murdered in his residence in Khaitan, saidsecurity sources, noting that police detectives were summoned to the crimescene, where they found the man's body in a pool of blood with a deep wound tothe neck and knife besides it. A case was filed and further investigations arein progress.
Child drowned
A four-year-oldKuwaiti child died after he drowned in a swimming pool in Julaia, said securitysources, noting that the child was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounceddead. A case was filed and investigations are ongoing.
Eight peoplerescued
Firefighterssaved eight people who were stranded on a southern Kuwaiti island yesterday.Four people were trapped in Umm Al-Namil island in the midst of high tidesbefore teams of volunteers came to their rescue, injuring themselves in theprocess, Kuwait Fire Service Directorate (KFSD) said in a statement. The firecrews managed to save all those who were stranded.

Firemen inMishref responded to an accident between Mubarak Al-Abdullah Al-Jaber and Bayanresulting in four injuries, one critical. Meanwhile, Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh firedepartment dealt with a fire in garbage left in a yard covering 500 sq m. Therubbish included lumber, tires and foam.
