KUWAIT: Undersecretary of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Bader Al-Mutairi emphasized that Islamic law encourages the protection of the environment and advocates for environmentally friendly practices that align with the Islamic values of moderation and avoiding excess. These principles promote a culture of sustainability and the protection of natural resources.

Mutairi made this statement during his participation in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) on climate change, held in Baku, Azerbaijan. According to a press release from the Ministry of Awqaf, Mutairi highlighted Kuwait’s commitment to international cooperation in addressing climate change and the country’s belief in the importance of environmental issues and the need for joint action to counter the effects of climate change.

He explained that the presence of religious leaders at the conference reflects the growing importance of finding comprehensive solutions that include social and religious dimensions to confront climate change, with the ultimate goal of protecting the environment for future generations. Mutairi also pointed out that Kuwait is making great efforts to achieve a balance between development and environmental protection in line with global sustainability goals. This is being done through environmental programs and plans that are in accordance with best international practices.

He noted that cooperation between nations and religious leaders is an important step toward raising societal awareness of environmental issues. He expressed hope that continued collaboration among countries and organizations would help achieve common goals in combating climate change and developing solutions to environmental challenges.

The COP29 conference serves as a global platform bringing together world leaders and decision-makers from various sectors to discuss environmental challenges and the increasing impacts of climate change. The conference aims to foster international cooperation in adopting sustainable strategies to mitigate the effects of climate change. Special attention is given to the role of cultural and religious values in achieving environmental sustainability, highlighting the importance of collaboration between countries and religious leaders to achieve these objectives. — KUNA
