The injustice of divorce on women in Kuwait

KUWAIT: The National Office for Human Rights launched a workshop for workers in the field of human rights and law enforcement under the patronage of the foreign minister and the Center for Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies at Kuwait University, as this year celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was approved by the United Nations in 1948 and is the most important legal document in international issues related to human rights in the entire world. Human Rights Day is marked in the countries that signed the document to review and highlight international commitments in their quest to provide a decent means of life and achieve sustainable development goals.

“As we celebrate Human Rights Day, we cannot ignore the continuation of the brutal Zionist attack against the Gaza Strip in a genocidal war, a war crime and a crime against humanity, many of whose victims are women and children, the demolishment of all vital installations and the prevention of basic means of life,” Head of the Kuwaiti National Diwan for Human Rights Jassem Al-Mubaraki said.

“This Zionist brutality places the entire world and human rights and humanitarian organizations under huge responsibility to move and demand an immediate ceasefire. Here I must address the shameful positions of some countries that claim to be sponsors of human rights in different countries of the world while they make the worst decisions in supporting the attack politically and providing with the most advanced weapons to continue its aggression,” he said.

“By this I mean the United States, which recently used its right of veto against a resolution calling for a ceasefire in a setback to the world order and the necessity of establishing international peace and security. I value the official and popular position of Kuwait in support of the Palestinian cause and humanitarian causes, with the support and guidance of His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Crown Prince, hoping that international efforts will succeed in ending this humanitarian suffering,” Mubaraki added.

Since its establishment, the National Diwan for Human Rights has been keen to support all initiatives that contribute to promoting and respecting human rights in accordance with international covenants and conventions and what is stipulated in Kuwaiti legislation. Organizing such workshops, which aim to raise awareness and train workers in the fields of human rights in Kuwait, is one of the occasions through which the diwan is keen to develop joint work organization, build the capabilities of workers and exchange local and regional experiences.

“We thank all governmental, private, and civil society entities for their interaction and keenness to participate, as 25 parties are participating in the workshop as part of efforts to communicate to achieve strategic partnerships to promote human rights. In conclusion, I can only thank the Center for Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies at Kuwait University for their cooperation in organizing and making the workshop and their contribution as an academic research institution in serving the human rights file,” Mubaraki added.
