KUWAIT: Indian Ambassador to Kuwait K Jeeva Sagar delivers a speech during the embassy's celebration of India's 70th Republic Day yesterday.

KUWAIT: IndianEmbassy in Kuwait yesterday celebrated India's 70th Republic Day at the embassypremises. At a colorful open-air ceremony, Indian Ambassador K Jeeva Sagarhoisted the national flag in the presence of embassy officials and a largecrowd of Indian nationals who gathered at the embassy to celebrate theremarkable day in India's history.

A cross sectionof the Indian expat community representing various associations, businesscommunity, doctors, engineers and labor class attended the flag-hoisting ceremony that was held in an atmosphere ofjoy and patriotic zest. The ambassador also garlanded the stature of MahatmaGandhi, the father of the nation on the occasion. Jeeva Sagar read out India'sPresident Ram Nath Kovind's address to the nation. Students from differentIndian schools performed patriotic songs on the occasion. 

While extendinggreetings to the members of the community in Kuwait, he praised the gatheringfor joining the embassy in celebrating the spirit of Republic Day. Sharing hishappiness with the community members, the ambassador informed that Indian expatfrom Kuwait Rajpal Thaygi received the prestigious Pravasi Bharathiya Awardlast week from Indian president.

He expressed hisgratitude to the Indian community members in Kuwait for extending a helpinghand to the victims of the devastating flood that struck Kerala last year.Republic Day is an important day in India's national calendar as India'sconstitution came into force on January 26, 1950, completing the country'stransition toward becoming an independent republic.
