KUWAIT: Kuwait University, represented by the Security and Safety Department, organized an awareness campaign entitled "World No Tobacco Day” in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, represented by the Health Promotion Department, in the lobby of the university administration building in Sabah Al-Salem University City, Al-Shadadiya.

The Acting Assistant Secretary-General for Facilities Management Affairs, Muhammad Al-Sulaiman, indicated that the campaign is aimed at raising awareness on the dangers of passive smoking on the health of an individual, especially the harms it causes. This, he said, is not limited to traditional cigarettes but also to shisha and electronic cigarettes.

He indicated the extent of the impact of smoking on public health, which has a negative impact socially, psychologically, and health-wise, stressing the need to prevent it so as to secure a healthy life free of diseases for all. Acting Director of the Safety Security Department, Yousef Al-Khamis, confirmed that this annual custom came with the aim of promoting awareness, prevention, and public safety.

"This would preserve the safety of employees and visitors to the campus,” he said, pointing out that this awareness campaign came with the participation of many different government agencies as well as a number of public benefit associations, with the aim of raising awareness for all segments of society in general and children in particular. "We would like to invite all campus employees and visitors to attend the opening of the first therapeutic clinic in Kuwait on May 27, 2024, at the College of Life Sciences—South Campus in the Shadadiya area. The center will offer advanced treatments and remedies to quit smoking,” he added.
